QUESTION Why do some companies withhold the exact job description during interviews, only to assign additional tasks with underpaid salaries once the candidate is employed?ANSWERSome companies withhold exact job descriptions during interviews to attract candidates who might decline if aware of the full scope. By presenting a vague role, they secure hires more easily. Once employed, workers face tasks beyond initial expectations, often with inadequate pay. This practice exploits job seekers, leveraging their need for employment against fair treatment. It highlights organizational inefficiencies and poor management. Such companies prioritize short-term gains over long-term employee satisfaction and retention, ultimately harming their reputation and productivity. Transparent job descriptions and fair compensation are essential for building trust and loyalty.

- 250 Applicants applied for this job.- Out of which 10-15 candidates may be interviewed. - At least 2 to 7 interview rounds. - Because companies want to select the best fit.Similarly, - A candidate applies for 50 positions.- May get interview calls from 5-7 companies.- Goes through multiple interview rounds. - Intent is to select the best company/ offer.Both sides want the best fit.Both sides invest tons of hours in the process.But at the end mostly things don't work out because of mismatch in salary expectations.If companies want to know the candidate salary expectations on day 1 then why can't they publish the salary rage/ pay scale/ pay grade for the position on the job board/ job description.If companies start to publish the salary information, it will save a lot of time, energy and efforts on both sides.Agree?

Follow the first part only.Today’s part 2 joke discusses the real problem of employment fraud where a spurious employer uses the promise of a job to extract PII for fraudulent use.Or, as I stated in a comment on the original post, “This works best if the prior one-sided interview asked you to describe your favorite pet, your first pet, and your mother’s family while holding your right and left index fingers up close to the camera.”Large companies have the advantage of accessing Know Your Business #KYB tools to determine whether a business and its ultimate beneficial owners are legitimate. I don’t know if an identity company that offers KYB for individual use yet, so we have to rely on other sources such as LinkedIn to confirm a business’ or a person’s legitimacy. And even that doesn’t work; Vivino is a legitimate business, but the dozens of “people” with LinkedIn profiles who claim to be the “Assistant to the Vice President” at Vivino are not.#identity is fun.

Pro Tip: If your company requires candidates to purchase your product to “test it” as part of their interview process, you will lose out on great candidates. Using your interview process to push product sales seems like a sketchy practice. If you REALLY want to take advantage of job seekers, make it less obvious. Extend the offer and send them payroll information. Once they send their banking info over, immediately pull the offer and drain their account.
